I have got the book on The Purpose Driven Life from a friend a while back, read a couple of chapters but never did managed to complete the reading than. Blame it on excuses like busyness from work and other commitment that crept in. Recently our church has got this 40 Days of Purpose campaign and with my freelance work I got down to disciplining myself to reading them daily.
On this 16th chapter, What Matters Most, the lead in para - Life is all about Love - and after completing it, I cant not agree with it more! It had reference as to how we love and how we have misplaced priorities towards love and our relationship.
Often we treat relationship as something to be squeezed into our schedule. We talk about finding time for our children or making time for people in our lives. Busyness and excuses got in our way most time as we get too preoccupied with making a living, doing our work, paying bills and neglected to spend quality time with the most important people in our lives. And time, attention and presence of the loved ones is exactly what we want to receive. Are we giving enough of our love to the people who matters most to us?
A friend once asked me, had I regretted giving up my cushy job that provided for a regular income. I had a split moment of doubt for a choice I made half a year ago. With freelancing, I do not know when my next pay check is coming and it gets stressful at times when the bill starts flowing in faster than the pay check would. It didn't help that we are living in a society, environment and amongst peers that do not placed much emphasis for a balanced lifestyle.
Yet for what I have lost in material, I have gained in personal relationships. I am glad that I have been able to use the most part of my time to bond with my kids, loved ones and people whom I care. That would have been quite impossible if I had held a full time job with regular income, I would've been too tired and worn out at day end with no energy left for them.
One thing I know for sure that at my final moments, I wouldn't want to be surrounded by objects of desire or achievements, what matters would be having the dearest people by my side.
The best use of life is love.
The best expression of love is time.
The best time to love is now.
